24 "Sugar River 1" Carved Pottery Bowl by Kathy King

Bowl 01  "The images on this bowl represent all that you see from the river's edge, and what you might see with a birds eye view looking into the trees, plant life, the fish, and animals that live in or around our rivers. This thrown bowl has a carved exterior surface using a technique called sgraffito after you coat the surface with an underglaze and then carve away the negative spaces. The bowl is then fired in a wood kiln for 30 hours by stoking the fire every 3 to 5 minutes which creates the finish from the direct hit from the flame and ash which creates the finished look."
